WELCOME TO GLSDA!

The Great Lakes Self-Defense Association (GLSDA) is dedicated to vigorously protecting the right of self-defense.  We provide information and support services to individuals interested in protecting themselves and their loved ones as well as to those who are responsible for the safety of others.  We endeavor to promote education, training, and legislative activism throughout the Great Lakes region.

GLSDA WATCH!

“I believe the Great Lakes Self-Defense Association is essential to the public education and advocacy of the most sacred of rights- to protect one’s self, home and family from harm.  I applaud you for supporting such a worthwhile cause and helping bring new legislation to light in the wake of it.” - Dick DeVos,  Amway President, 2006 Gubenatorial Candidate

“Get involved in groups like the Great Lakes Self-Defense Association. Advocacy groups like the GLSDA provide a fulltime and energetic voice on your behalf in the halls of government and the media, and perform an invaluable service for gun owners in the process. They deserve your support.” - Daniel Acciavatti (R) Michigan State Representative, 32nd District

Supreme Court Declares That the Second AmendmentGuarantees an Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms:

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday June 26 of 2008 that individuals have the constitutional right to bear arms, and ended a handgun ban in Washington D.C. This is the first time since 1939 that the Supreme Court has ruled on the second amendment, and the first time it has ever had to rule on the interpretation of "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain said the ruling is ‘‘a landmark victory for Second Amendment freedom.''

Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama response was “that the court did not find an unfettered right to bear arms and that the ruling and will provide much-needed guidance to local jurisdictions across the country.”
