Global Life Skills Development Associates, Inc. is a Non-Profit organization in the greater Baltimore Maryland area whose mission it is to transform our communities by preparing youth to succeed in life through positive mentoring relationships, and to connect a broad range of community groups and leaders to support responsible mentoring initiatives. We promote mentoring as a strategy to prevent youth violence, substance abuse, school drop-outs, and other negative behaviors which limit young individual’s prospects for success. Therefore, we offer alternative grass-root programming to schools and communities with specific focus on at-risk youth to reverse the negative trends of violence, bullying and drugs existing in our communities today. We do this by implementing curriculum based after school programing that provides examples of success through life coaching and mentoring, and by providing examples of people who have made choices of consequence, both good and bad, to provide mentoring opportunities that encourage the disciplines needed to develop personally and professionally to succeed in life. We ultimately want to show at-risk youth that there is an alternative pathway in which they can learn to choose to pursue their goals and dreams to achieve personal success.
At Global Life Skills Development Associates, Inc. we connect with at-risk youth, their families and their communities by reaching out to Residents, Local and Community Leaders, Schools, Churches and particularly to reach the community’s Youth (from adolescent to young adult); and to provide them with structured mentoring programs. The programs will utilize sports and life skill development workshops as a platform for building self-value, self-discipline, self-confidence and consideration for others. They will also learn good decision making skills, to understand the need for education, personal and spiritual well-being, etiquette, a sense of belonging and self-confidence. These values will develop valuable interpersonal life skills to aide in their ability to be successful and to attain their goals for life. It is our goal to produce a vision of hope for each participant through mentoring, personal attention, personal interaction, and genuine caring and concern. Doing so will provide clear direction to obtaining an alternative attainable pathway of choice for success in their future.
The success of a school's anti-violence strategies for intervention or prevention programing also depend on the development of a firm safety net. Students are encouraged to identify and enhance critical protective factors or assets which can help them achieve happy and productive lives. This process includes aspects of character education (the development of pro-social values and behaviors, such as the selection of pro-social friends, empathy for others, the development of positive goals, involvement with a personal support system, gang resistance, participation in positive community organizations and activities). As schools are a critical protective factor, these resources provide support for violence prevention, anti-bullying programs, peer pressure awareness, and embracing diversity.
